In one week we'll be taking our first born off to college. Oddly enough my husband seems more "stressed" about the first out of the nest than I do, but I suspect that I'm still focused on all the things that have to be done, purchased, cleaned and packed and that I'm not really gonna know how I'm gonna handle this until the first time I walk into that empty bedroom one evening.

However, he's been good about training me, coming home from work all last year, he'd be in his bedroom, on the computer, blogging, i-m-ing or playing video games with friends near and far.  Sending im text "is dinner ready, yet?" to my computer downstairs in the ktichen. In the morning I'd check my e-mail and find that he'd sent some silly You Tube link... My guess - hope really is that this electronic connection thing will continue and make us still feel close across the miles, and maybe the empty room won't be that big a deal.

Probably fooling myself here, any advice out there from those of you who have already gone through the freshman college year?

It is an adjustment, everything will work out fine. There are so many electronics out there that will keep you in touch with him. Keeping in contact becomes very special. The first one off from the nest is always the toughest, and the last is as well. Both are transitions. By the time the last one leaves, you and your hubby will have things planned that you've always wanted the freedom to do. Yet, there is that silence in the house and you will always remember their laughter.
