Bluesqueen,

Several major oil company CEOs have said they have an obligation to boost prices whenever the opportunity presents itself, because they have a fidiuciary responsibility to stockholders.

Since Congress is unlikely to take any action that would cap profits, especially since that probably would be an illegal move, the next best move is for consumers to take things in their own hands by using less gasoline by using more fuel efficient vehicles and by simply driving less.

A significant drop in demand results in a drop in price.

Demand is the most powerful tool that consumers have.

Congress could and should consider higher per-gallon requirements for new vehicles in the future.

I guess we would all have to march there because we wouldn't want to consume gas to get there...

Chassan
Thanks fo your input on profits for stock holders. But, I do not care. It is really unfair. Just about every week, I have friends and family who are just trying to get to their jobs, they live in areas of Houston without bus routes near their homes and need gas money.

Maybe the oil rich stockholder can help. We are feeling the cost of gas in our everyday necessities, food, clothing housing and our wages are not rising. The oil rich CEO's are not interested in us at all. I am still calling for help!

Please, maybe we can ride horses, bikes and
skateboards, but we need to do this, we need to speak out! We cannot just lie down alet them, the oil rich stockholders and CEO's walk all over us.

Chassan, It's easy to say use less gas, but, if you have to go to work everyday and church on Wed, Sundays my son and his wife spends over $30.00 every week for gas to get to the church of their choice. We have cut our trips back as much as we can, but it still is too much. I am driving my '85 relic on fumes right now!

My car gets about 14 mpg city, 20 hwy. I drive 62 miles round trip every day, except on Tues, Thurs, Fri..taking my daughter to swim practice adds another 10 miles each of those days to my 5 day commute. On the weekends, I try to run all errands in one fell swoop, in a 8 mile radius.
My gasoline bill averages $350 a month these days. That's MORE than my light and cable bill COMBINED. That's basically, a stinkin' car note. So I understand EXACTLY where you're coming from.
Question, though...who's gonna pony up the $$$ for the gas to get the bus to DC? Wouldn't it be more cost effective to march on the actual company offices themselves? DC doesn't determine gas prices..the CEOs do.
Shell is in Deer Park, so is Exxon. Chevron is in Channelview.

Please read this article link. The past two years have shown Congress' ineptitude when it comes to energy. This is but another example, resulting in higher prices, soaring food costs (ethanol) and now, perhaps, a recession brought on by a failure to understand basic economics.

Bluesqueen,
I was not suggesting that you stop calling for a protest. Just throwing some information out there about what the oil industry is thinking.

Some members of Congress want to cap oil profits, but no one has come up with a legal and workable idea. One common suggestion from Capitol Hill: Strip oil companies of any tax breaks if they make more than a certain amount in profits.

The idea of driving less and driving more fuel efficient vehicles are the two key things that are within our grasp as consumers. Every other idea requires congressional action.

With the vehicles now on the road, motorists won't be able to save much. But when 40 miles per gallon becomes the standard for all vehicles, there will be a substantial reduction in demand.

Mlk1of3,
Most of the major gasoline refiners that produce the nation's gasoline are located in Texas and Louisiana.

Problem is "We've had it too good for too long" and now the reality has hit us hard at home.
We'd have a rail system from the airports and docks to the city but successive Mayors had interests in the construction business and road building and the legislator was heir to the Yellow Cab business and voted against any rail system.
Now we have only our cars to take us here and there and even the shuttle bus to the airports are terminated and cab is the only alternative to parking your own car (space being available)

bluesqueen, I have the greatest respect for you & your views--
I FOLLOW your blogs--religiously!!
The ONLY people blogging that make any sense ALL the time to me --are you, flyinginfo, redtractortom, & (sometimes)MIK!
I think marching on city hall would be "a trip"-
A march on Washington, though needed is "out of the question"--
TOO many people have jobs that they rely on for a living, nuch less the expense & laborious endeavor!

It is so sad, that We have let this nation be taken to it's knees--
For 232 years, we have let the intelligent lead, & us (not so fortunate), followed--
Now, we have let a administration out of personal greed get in power--focus our attention on a foriegn nation, while our country is taken over by immigrants, who will NOT follow--but intend to lead, regardless of ability!
All these people that think they can run this ship--will be sadly mistaken!
They WANT the money & prestige, but have NO clue how to run a country!
(The 1st thing they would probably do is raid the treasury, & divy up the loot!)

Reading a fellow bloggers forecast of this action, in 2001, I invested in 200 shares of oil stock that netted me over $100,000.00, & I recently sold it!
(Sometimes blogs pay off!)
I wonder how much our illustrious leader that asked the oil executive "what the problem was" made?

All these people that study the causes, ask oil companies, believe their B.S.--make statements like "They are our leaders, & we should support them"--& "then" THEY give us advice--
GEEEZ!

I WISH I had a solution--
I WISH someone would have listened, but this

administration, these immigrants, have CONTROL--& anybody that still believes "in America as it was" may be in for a rude awakening!
Bush & co. have taken us to the cleaners--
The immigrants "methodically" take our jobs--our government positions, while we watch & gripe--
As long as they get it done, who cares what we think?
They FAR outnumber us now--you wanna fight?
They say "Bring it on"!

I sincerly believe that in a few years, this country will make the wilds of Africa, the sands of Iraq, & the villages of Mexico, look like a Metropolis!
Thanks for your idea--you are a wondeerful person, I think!

Born in Houston, lived in KC for a while and Birmingham. I love to travel! I visited Jakarta Indonesia. Terrible city under seige all the time. Never want to go back! Went to Malaysia, very weird feeling amongst the Arab/Muslim tribes. Americans of any race definitely not admired! Had a great time in Singapore. The different nations there get along very well and you feel welcome! I went to 12 cities in Northern Italy, everyone was very nice, did not speak Italian, that was really exciting! I am retired. plan to travel more, soon. But, right now I am getting ready to start an at home internet business promoting local musicians, singers, dancers,(praise and others as well) and comedians. More on this later! I am a Christian and strong believer in God. One of my web pages will include a place for devout religious people to visit and share prayers, bible studies and music!
