I am very sad to say that Calvin Owens, whom I have known every since I was 4 or 5 years old in the 5th ward is GONE!

Calvin was the music director for B. B. King and made many recordings here in Houston, giving many aspiring talented artist, who probably would never have had the opportunity to be recorded by such a great and sensitive man as Calvin.

He recently recorded and produced a session at Sugar Hill for Johnny Bush, Ray Price and the great Willie Nelson, accompanying them with "his BIG BLUE" sound. He and Conrad are now together in that big band in the sky!  Wow!

Calvin, I will miss you and your music.  Someday we will meet again  on the other side!

Thank you, TA!

I do plan to be there! He was a really good and kind "ole" man.

I was there, and I have never seen such an awesome "Homegoing"!! His orchestra played, the band leader, playing the trumpet was going up and down the aisles. Singers sang, the folks who came to pay their respects were flowing out of the doors.
My husband and I met Calvin II and Calvin III when we were first married and they were our neighbors. I got the chance to meet Mr. Owens when he performed here at Fox 26. He was sharp as a tack and awesome! He will truly be missed.

Born in Houston, lived in KC for a while and Birmingham. I love to travel! I visited Jakarta Indonesia. Terrible city under seige all the time. Never want to go back! Went to Malaysia, very weird feeling amongst the Arab/Muslim tribes. Americans of any race definitely not admired! Had a great time in Singapore. The different nations there get along very well and you feel welcome! I went to 12 cities in Northern Italy, everyone was very nice, did not speak Italian, that was really exciting! I am retired. plan to travel more, soon. But, right now I am getting ready to start an at home internet business promoting local musicians, singers, dancers,(praise and others as well) and comedians. More on this later! I am a Christian and strong believer in God. One of my web pages will include a place for devout religious people to visit and share prayers, bible studies and music!
