Guys, I was bitten yesterday by a spider.  I didnt see it, thought it was a skeeter bite but, this morning, you can see the fang marks.  Without going to a doctor, any suggestions?

I'ts starting to burn a little, rash getting little bigger.  I applied neosporin and cold compress.

I have a pack of steroid pills...what do you think?

You're not in any professional sports are you? LOL

Seriously, if it keeps getting worse, you'll need to see a doctor. My rememdy whenever I get bit or stung by some kind of insect, is tobacco. Wet a little down (smokeless works best), and apply that to the bite/sting. It draws out the poison, and makes the pain almost instantly go away.

I think you need to get your fanny to a doctor. My mom got bit by a spider on her face and ended up in the hospital for two weeks in 1997.

GO!!

Don't take the steroids, and go to the doctor. Let them treat it. If it was a brown recluse, you're in for a lot of problems if you don't go immediately.

Okay....I spent my money and went to the doctor. He says....that's not a spider bite....thats an insect bite. He's wrong. It's now the size of a silver dollar with two fang marks in the middle. It's warm and reddish. He gave me an antibiotic script. I hope it doesnt get worse. Professional sports I WISH, then I could afford to go to the doctor. lol

Are you sure it's not a staph infection? My daughter had a staph infection that seemed to be an insect bite, with what looked like a fang mark. It was staph along with cellulitis (sp?), which was the reddening and hot feeling she had on the area. It also felt very hardened. You might google for pics and see if yours compares.

Go to the Doc. if he's full of it get another opinion. My friend almost lost a big toe from a spider bite. Whatever you have needs to be attacked right away. 2000 LB bulls don't bother me but Spiders freak me right out. Especially the BIG fuzzy ones with the buck teeth, glasses and beards. EEEEEEEEUUUUUWWWWW!

Don't ever take steroids without a doctor's supervision. They are very dangerous. However, doctors are not Gods; they can be wrong. Have you tried putting hydrocortisone cream on it? He wouldn't be giving you an antibiotic unless he thought it looked infected. Give the antibiotic about 72 hours before you think it isn't working.

i have seen some horrible reactions to spider bites. and mom is right, steroids can be dangerous and compromise your ability to fight off infection. i know its expensive, but i think i would get a second opinion if it doesn't start looking better in a day or so.

Im with WW, my 7 yro son had what we thought was a spider bite, fang marks and all, last year. It turned out to be MRSA and had to be lanced and drained every day for 2 weeks. Plus suplha drugs for 4 weeks to get it to clear up. Not a good thing for a little boy, he was not pleased. Id get another opinion.
