I'm sure you have all heard of the increase on groceries at our local supermarkets.  I went to Kroger yesterday to buy a few things we needed and could'nt believe it.  The prices are higher than ever.   Four tomatoes were $6.00.  A loaf of Mrs. Bairds bread was nearly $3.00.  I'm guessing it's time to start planting our own veggies or get a second job.

EVERY time I go to the grocery store and gas station I'm shocked ALL OVER AGAIN. I just can't believe how expensive groceries and gasoline are. It's terrible.

The demand for alternative fuels and higher gas prices - we all pay for it one way or the other. Prices are ridiculous. But apparently this is what the screamers want - alternative fuels. Between OPEC and the Saudis - they control the spiket and we get to pay for it whether we like it or not. With the ethanol production, food prices will soar even more. We should feed the hungry of the world, not our engines. People are already complaining of what ethanol is doing to their car engines. This liberal thinking is taking us down the wrong road.

No kidding! I make more money than I have ever made in my life, but I have WAY less money than I used to have. Something has got to give!! I agree with ac55txstar, stop with the ethanol, it’s doing much more harm than good.

I must also add that I am cutting out every coupon I can find. I spend $260 last Saturday at Kroger and had over $50 in coupons. It helped, but I was still blown away that is was over $200. And dangit, if I did not forget the onions!

I'm like zeebra in that I'm making more money than I ever have in my life, but have way less than I used to.
I'm like ac55 in that I religiously clip coupons.
I'm using the spike in prices though to cut out the stuff thats bad for us..no more ding-dongs, no more chips, no more ice cream. So while our wallets will be lighter, I think our bodies just may end up lighter too..which is a good thing, isn't it?
Forget about feeding the worlds hungry..taking care of everyone else's problems is what got us into this mess. We need to take care of ourselves, first, then other countries.

They can solve their own problems..we just need to butt out!!

I have to agree with you Mik. We have enough problems here. And from what I can tell...nobody wants U.S. involvement anyway. So I say we leave them to their problems and we take care of our own.

Wait Ac55txstar: Liberal ethanol? I hear nothing more out of George Bush's mouth than biofuels. When did this idea become a liberal idea? When something doesn't work, people want to blame "liberals." I personallly want solar and wind power. That is more of the liberal stance. Ain't gonna happen because too many people in Washington profit from oil and gas either personally or politically. George Bush just said in his speech at the end of April accusing "millionaire farmers" yet in the next breath said how much we need them. I have the YouTube clip from the speech if you'd like to see it.

The spike in food and gas prices is wholly artificial, the result of price gouging by wholesalers following news reports of higher crude oil prices and a shortage of rice on some Asian countries (a story which turned out to not be true).
But I do agree with the first poster -- we need to return to growing some of our own, if only to thumb our collective noses at the mega-corporate farms.

Before President Bush took office, the ethanol production has been an alternative for some time by environmentalists and from what I can see they are liberal. Now that is not to be mean in any way, just that the majority of enviros are liberal in their thinking in doing away with fossil fuels, completely. Now I am for alternative fuels which are working pretty good with the hybrids, but the dollar gets you in the pocket every time. Hybrid cars are much more expensive than gas vehicles. But you are right, Bayou, wholesalers are taking advantage, but who isn't these days? I think we need to cut the purse strings with the Saudis and other countries and start depending on ourselves again. It could motivate present and future generations.

Hey PBMom, I think it goes both ways of blaming these days. If it ain't the Liberals, it's the Chritians! lol

contd.....oops, I can't believe I misspelled - Christians! But anyway, we all seem to be caught in the middle....these days. I do not listen much to the news anymore. If food goes up any higher, our poor and elderly will suffer.
