Thoughts of HoMan

Before: I had 2 bird feeders (which were continually filled when empty) and fresh water. Family of birds arrive each morning to feed, drink, poop and feed, drink, poop until food was all gone. They stayed longer because there was so much to eat. Some even attempted to build their little homes in my yard. The poop was overwhelming. I find the chirping (noise) soothing....especially upon waking up. I like to watch, hear and study birds of all species.

After: Today, I have 8 bird feeders and fresh water.. At night, I put a "little" food in each feeder. Same family of birds arrive each morning to feed, drink, poop and move on. There are no nest, some poop, and the chirping (noise) is just as soothing upon awaking or thru out the day as I continue to watch, listen and study them. Facinating creatures!

Sometimes, a little tweek here and a little tweek there solve a problem? Just my opinion.

SO TELL ME WHY DO THE BIRDS STILL COME TO OTHER BIRD FEEDERS ? MAYBE BECAUSE OTHERS WHO TAKE CARE OF THOSE BIRD FEEDERS LIKE THE ILLEGAL BIRDS ,& PREFER ILLEGAL BIRDS BECAUSE THEY ARE EASIER TO FEED THAN LOCAL BIRDS . PLUS , THE STATE SEEMS TO TURN A BLIND EYE AT CERTAIN BIRD FEEDERS WHO LIKE TO FEED ILLEGAL BIRDS WITH LOWER GRADE BIRD SEED . ILLEGAL BIRDS LIVE OFF OF LOWER GRADE BIRD SEED BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO CHOICE , EAT OR STARVE . AT TIMES ILLEGAL BIRDS CAUSE GRIEF BECAUSE OF THEIR LARGE FLOCKS BUT IF ONE LOOKS CLOSER THEY ADD TO THE LOCAL BIO DIVERSITY OF NATURE BY LEAVING BENEFICIAL GUANO - DROPPINGS THAT BECOME FERTILIZER . SOMETIMES LOCAL HAWKS AND EVEN OTHER ILLEGAL BIRDS ELIMINATE MIGRATING ILLEGAL BIRDS BY HUNTING THEM OR CAGING THEM UP TO BE RELEASED AT A LATER DATE . SO GOES THE CYCLE IN THE OF LIFE OF BIRDS ...

I KNOW APOL , BUT THAT IS HOW I DO MY THING ... OH AND THINK ABOUT THE BEAUTIFUL NESTS THE ILLEGAL BIRDS MAKE FOR THE LOCAL BIRDS . LOCAL BIRDS DON'T MAKE THEIR NESTS IN THIS AREA AS MUCH AS THEY USED TO .

"A Mother's love"
During a violent storm, we noticed a 'Mexican Dove' was nested in an abandoned hanging basket hanging from the arbor in the yard.

Half the nest was exposed to the heavy rain and wind and then came hail stones.

We wanted to move the basket to a safer place but knew if we disturbed her she would fly off and perhaps not return resulting in the loss of her offspring.

She sat there erect, beak skyward liken to a bitten does while in fright from a predator or hunter.

The hail stones pinged off her head and body but she stayed in the nest looking skyward till the storm subsided.

A few days later we found a baby chick dead in the nest and thought how the Mother Dove risked her own safety to protect her offspring in vain

We've positioned 2 baskets in the hope she or others will return to nest.
