You ask Why !
The Dial 1 for English was furtively introduced by Government Agencies to pander to the flood of Aliens arriving from S.America.
The Government took it upon themselves to instigate the Press 1 for English as they did when they voted themselves multiple wage increases and medical benefits.

The Utility and service companies soon followed suit - including the B.B.B. who changed the Press for Spanish for Press 1 for English.

I'm told that Medicare is an exception and ask press 2 for Spanish.

I refuse to Press 1 for English and only use
credit cards and Banks that ask press for Spanish.

If others followed suit it would disappear as it arrived.
However, complacency today and self greed with a who cares attitude. - oink. oink.
