Good morning all... I have been responding to posters for a while, but this is my first blog. I received the email below from a good friend this morning, and am trying all avenues I can to help him. When you read below, you will understand why. I am not trying to buy anything, just want help in finding the vaccine to help his mother.
His email to me:
Hello to All~
We are sending out this email in search of Human Rabies Vaccine. My Mother was bitten by a raccoon in daylight on Friday afternoon when reaching in her feed bin to feed her horses. We have no idea knowing the status of the coon as it ran away after biting her. The vaccine for humans is on a Natl. Backorder and only available to Post-Exposure, meaning a person who has been bitten.
We are hoping someone may know someone who works for Novartis, or Sanofi Pasteur, the two main manufacturers of the vaccine, or for a company who carries/supplies this vaccine.
We would have started this search on Saturday, but the lady we spoke with in the Health Dept. in Houston, told us she would have it this Wednesday for us to pick it up. Then informed us at 4:45 this afternoon, they no longer order it and our physician would have to do so. They gave us the name of one supplier which said it was out of the vaccine. Now all businesses are closed until tomorrow.
If any of you happen to have any contacts which could help, please let us know ASAP. We have to find the vaccine and get her started on it before Friday, August 15, 2008.

Followup by me, research done this morning (8-12-08):
There are two major manufacturers of Human Rabies Vaccine in the USA, Sanofi Pasteur and Novartis. Sanofi Pasteur is moving their rabies vaccination manufacturing facilities, and is not currenty making any. They stockpiled a supply to last until what they thought would be mid 2009. The other major manufacturer, Novartis, had their supply condemed by the FDA due to some manufacturing concerns. The supply made by Sanofi Pasteur then became the only supply available. The stockplies dried up much more quickly than originally expected. Basically, it is hard to find. If anyone knows wher any can be found, please post it here. I will send my friend David a link to this blog so he can monitor it also.
