So I don't always do a great job keeping up with off season stuff for professional sports, so this my be old news. But what is up with Brett Favre?

He wants to play again?
But not for Green Bay?

It’s professional football that’s always indoors.
The Katy Ruff Riders are back at home this Monday, May 12th. Here are a few pics from the last time they came to the station and I was lucky enough to be filling-in on the Morning Newscast.

Has anyone seen the AT&T commercial starring the Lopez Taekwondo Family?
I thought it was kind of fun.
They live in Houston, right?

I try, but I know I am not the most knowledgeable Houston sports fan. My favorite team to follow is the Astros, but I never can seem to catch up with the team until later in the Summer.
So how is the team looking this Spring?
Not an Astro

Why is Roger Clemens throwing batting practice for Astros training camp? I didn't think he was an Astro yet. I've heard some folks joke that this is how he is staying in shape so he can report to the Yankee's roster.
I'm not sure the circus that is following him around now days is good for training camp.
Super Bowl National Holiday

President's Day...
It's a national holiday, but who has the day off? Seems like most schools are in session and most businesses are open. I think the holiday is observed mainly by car dealerships and furniture stores with their big sales.
Super Bowl Sunday is a day that most of the nation celebrates. Parties, not going to work, and I've even heard about some churches changing their schedules around the big game. I probably had 10 people ask me what I was doing for the Super Bowl. Can't think of anyone that asked me what I was doing for President's Day.

Did anyone else think the NBC “green” thing was lame on
Sunday Night Football? Candles in the
studio? I laugh when I think of how that
planning meeting went.
I’m all for saving energy, but that stunt was pretty silly.

We’ve all been looking for another reason not to like Barry Bonds. He gave it to us in his post game interview yesterday. Let’s get our kids lined up to meet the future homerun leader.
NHRA and Weather

Couple weeks ago I got an email from David Powers Motor Sports inviting me to talk "weather" with them when they came to Houston. The Powerade NHRA racing series was headed to Baytown for the 20th annual O'Reilly Spring Nationals. I went out to Houston Raceway Park and learned how they use weather data in their sport. I spent most of my time in the pit for Whit Bazemore. He drives the Matco Tools top fuel dragster. His crew chief Lee Beard showed me their weather station and discussed the different climate conditions that are most studied. Temperature and humidity are watched the closest. When the weather is cooler and dryer they can burn more fuel and create more power. When there is a lot of water in the air it becomes more difficult to light the fuel mixture in the cylinders. You have to take some of the fuel volume out and that makes less power from the motor. The weather of course is different everywhere they go but they want to have the same horse power from the motor. The clutch system works best if you have consistent horse power and Beard showed me their computer software that helps them to know what adjustments to make to the motor.
Greg Ramirez was my photographer and did a great job both in the pit and out on the track. If you get a chance, ask him about having to wear a gas mask while shooting.
This was my first time to an NHRA event. And I must say, I will be returning again. You know there are some things that are just not the same on TV. In person this sport is incredible. You can't appreciate 7000 horse power until you can smell and feel it.
Be sure and watch the video story on our weather page.
Thanks to Whit Bazemore and his team...

Key ingredients for a good place to watch the Madness we find in March...
>3 televisions
>2 laptops
>3 grills fired-up on the back porch
>Enough food to feed 4 times the number of people that are actually there.
This was all just on Friday! And for the record, there was some kind of grilled marinated shrimp that were UNBELIEVABLE. Thanks Friends!
How are you watching the games?
